|On the morning of the 9th of May the usual Braxton Hicks contractions which I had been experiencing throughout my pregnancy took on a more noticeable edge and I experienced them more as mild menstrual cramps, so somewhere in the back of my mind I figured today was probably the day. I carried on as usual since these cramps were very intermittent and hardly painful. We had a drumming event on later that evening which everyone was preparing for.
I sat down at about 8pm to watch a movie, all the while the contractions became a little more regular and slightly more intense. By 9:30pm I think I finally realised I was in labour since my body was now sending out much stronger signals.
We left our house at 10pm. The drive to the birth centre was probably the most intense part of the whole experience since every bump on the road seemed to acutely sharpen that powerful and somewhat overwhelming feeling of something pushing down.
We arrived at the birthing house at 10:30pm. A few minutes after walking into the room my water broke. My midwife, who was halfway through running my bath for this idyllic water birth I had planned stated that there was no time for that, I was to get on the bed, this baby was coming now. Three pushes later at 10:45pm Lumin was born. I think the months of mental preparation I went through with the HypnoBirthing, the unborn child session and the countless You Tube videos I watched with only positive and empowering birth stories really prepared me mentally for this event. It helped me to visualise the kind of birth I wanted and created in my mind the possibility for a peaceful, uncomplicated and empowered birth. Although in that intense moment of actually birthing my baby it was the encouraging words of my husband and the coaching of my midwife that really got me through it. Thank you for everything. HypnoBirthing really put me in the right frame of mind and got me on the right path to creating the birth I wanted. And it was a profound experience!
|And here’s what the proud dad had to say of the experience: So besides having a drumming event on Friday evening … there was a new arrival on this night too. Monica, my wonderful and powerful wife gave birth to our baby girl Lumen with 3 pushes after 45 min of labor. After the drumming, at 22:00 we drove to the birthing house.
We arrived at 22:30, 15 min later – there she was.
Everyone back home by 00:30 …
Mind blowing on so many levels! Overwhelmed by the whole experience and the calm strength of Monica…
